Controlled-Release Coatings

Shear Kershman’s Coating Technology has been used to produce two types of controlled-release coatings: the first includes film coatings over an existing tablet or capsule base that allows for a slow release of the tablet contents. The second type of controlled release coating is based on a sustained-release system containing the active to be released. A variation of this technology is used to create enteric coatings for various drugs, probiotics and enzymes that would normally be destroyed by stomach acid. Enteric coating releases active in the small intestine while protecting it in the stomach.
